@Champnumber39 I’m about to graduate with a degree in Marine & Freshwater Biology after four years at University, I’d recommend taking Biology,? Geography, Maths and although it was my least favourite subject, Chemistry, it is very important when you reach college! Also try and get as much experience in the field as possible, look for voluntary posts which might boost your CV and set you apart from the others, check my page on our trip to Egypt hopefully it will inspire you more!

Hey, I’m currently a freshman in high school and I want to be a marine biologist. Math and science are my strongest subjects while I do very well in all others. If you’re an experienced marine biologist and? you have any advice I would really appreciate it. Thankyou!

Marine Biology is my calling. I am VERY interested in it. I am a senior in High? School and I plan to go to College in 2012 for Marine Biology. I cannot wait. By the way Mathematics is my weakest subject. But I’m sure it’s basic material with Marine Biology. Message me if you are a experienced Marine Biologist and want to give me tips or pointers. Thank You.

@Legolas25079 Nope. I wish! Those videos and photos come from the Gulf of California, in Mexico. We have a large Sea? Lion colony here too.

  • ggalland says:

    @mrraptor33 I’m glad I could help!?

  • ggalland says:

@xXDeapAbyssXx Hi. There are tons of good marine biology schools in Canada, Dalhousie being one of them. They aren’t necessarily close, but they are in your country. Check out Simon Fraser University, University? of British Columbia, and University of Victoria as well. Notice a pattern in their location? Woods Hole near Boston is closer than those three. We have lots of Canadians at Scripps in San Diego.

  • ggalland says:

@1Filmproducer you need pretty good grades; just push yourself. marine biologists get paid very different wages depending on where they? live and what they do. there is no real answer to that one…

  • Legolas25079 says:

Looks like you were in Galapagos. were you?
    ?

marine biology has always been a big future option for? me, but I was never sure. I think it was just the act of choosing a career that intimidated me. I am 16 right now, so there’s still time to smooth out plans and everything. thank you for your help, you really helped me gain some perspective on this field!

  • 1Filmproducer says:

@ggalland hi, id love to study fish and was wondering? a few things. What grades do you need? also, wats the type of wage ( sorrry, i bet you get asked this loads )
    Thanks
    Mike

@ggalland I would like to ask your thoughts on me maybe going to Dalhousie University of Science to become a? Marine Biologist. Also, I would appreciate some alternate Universities and/or College’s good for Marine Biology. I live in Ontario, Canada. So if there’s anything close for me, that would be very helpful.

  • mrraptor33 says:

  • leonardomedina91 says:

@ggalland yeah I know, big? change, but you gotta do what you love right? Now I just have to decide whether to study at UABCS or in UMAR, in Oaxaca, but I think I´ll end up in La Paz.
Anyway, thank you for the information, youpve been really helpful, I really appreciate it.
Good luck in your preesentation tomorrow! Hope everything works out.

  • ggalland says:

@leonardomedina91 That’s quite a change! I think graduating with a marine biology degree is ok as long as you work hard to make sure that you are very good at general biology and some other things as well. You may decide you don’t want to be a marine biologist someday. ? Also, when you go to graduate school (pretty much required for MB), they will want to see that you are good at that other stuff as well. Either way, UABCS is a great option. I am giving a presentation there tomorrow!

  • leonardomedina91 says:

@ggalland No I dont live in Baja, Ive been living in Monterrey for 2 years, studying to be a chemical engineer, but? I decided Im gonna drop out, and study marine biology instead. I think I´ll move to La Paz in January.
One other thing, which do you think is better? To graduate from college with a degree in marine biology, and specialize in whatever field you like; or graduate from college with a general biology, or a science degree, and then specialize in marine biology.

  • ggalland says:

@leonardomedina91 Hola! Good guess. I live in San Diego, but I work in La Paz and have been here? for two months. I will return back to San Diego soon. You are correct that UABCS is one of the best (maybe the number 1) school in Mexico para obtener tu licenciatura. I definitely recommend it. There are lots of good researchers there studying everything from corals and algae to whales and seabirds. Let me know what you decide! Do live in Baja already?

  • leonardomedina91 says:

by any chance, do you live in La Paz? I´m mexican and the cross where you pointed the place you live seemed like La Paz to me. Im actually? thinking about going to La Paz to study marine biology, supposedly the UABCS is the best school for marine biology in Mexico. Do you recomend me going there? Im still not sure where I should study.
I would be really grateful for your help.
